Nintendo may have inadvertently revealed that it’s working on an upgraded Switch, after hackers did some digging in the console’s recently released firmware 5.0. Hidden within the update’s files were references to what could only be seen as a hardware refresh for Switch. Since the firmware’s release, the hacking and datamining community has been unlocking different parts of the update and they uncovered a few interesting details in the process. References to a new SoC (System on Chip) were found first, pointing to the Nvidia Tegra 214 chip, which is a slight upgrade over the Tegra 210 chip in the current generation. With the recently discovered multiple vulnerabilities in the Switch firmware. The general understanding is that the Tegra 210 chip is largely to blame for these, and a permanent software fix may not be possible, hence the upgrade. However, this all got turned on its head earlier this week when researcher Mike Heskin found evidence that the upgrade may be more substantial. On top of the Tegra 214 chip, the supposed new console will feature an updated PCB and 8GB of memory, compared to 4GB in the current model. Nintendo is well known to release new revision of their game consoles, and have done so for years. When you look back at the 3DS XL that appeared in mid 2012, not much more than a year after the launch of the original 3DS. This new information might suggests that a new revision of the Switch can be possible in 2018, and could be targeted for a holiday season release, it would make sense. But we will see.. source1 source2@sakura jules @adde andyu Joe Sir, PeterVader lostbhoy KokiriCraig @vgamerist

Interesting indeed, Ron. I'm not so much for hacker's information what they found but it sounds true. It's actually common that Nintendo is super scared of the possibly to pirate copy their games.
I haven't the time to plug in my Switch yet online. So I can't say anything about 5.0 firmware yet.

Very interesting.... But why the hell would information on a basically separate console be held on the older revision? It's not as though the new one will be anywhere near this firmware version. Weird! Certainly not impossible and as Ron says, we all expected ninty to release a point 2 version anyway but as cool as that info is, i still don't want one 😋

That crossed my mind also, Lostboy. Why put textfiles about a future system in a firmware update? Also that the info was first posted public on Twitter. I don't believe Twitter much after Mr T's rants about fake news.
Well only time will tell I say.
