Could it still be a platformer underwater? I know they had a bit of a carnival/theme park thing going on in SM3DW but if they expanded on that where the fairground is the central hub like Isle Delfino and there are themed areas like a ghost house and aquarium and so on that could be cool.

Oh Sonic, after the NES introduced me to gaming it was Sonic that convinced me to get a Megadrive. Sonic, Sonic 2, 3 & Knuckles were such amazing games. Loved the speed and multiple routes you could take through each level and the boss fights far surpassed anything in Mario games. The soundtracks were awesome too. Then gaming turned to 3D and it were downhill from there. There were some great 3d sonic games... |

Colours was the best one I've played. That just about passed as a good game. IMO

I enjoyed parts of Adventure as a kid. Looking back at it now though I doubt any of it would hold up well. The Big The Cat and robot bits were awful. And it was the start (I think) of voice acting in Sonic games, making all the characters annoying as hell.
Sonic is just desperate these days, like a man going through a mid life crisis and trying to be cool. Shadow The Hedgehog (aka Emo Sonic), giving Sonic a bloody sword. Embarrassing Sega. I have no hope whatsoever the series can ever turn itself around. Just let him die already. Sorry Petervadar and Sonic fans.
