A report from Japanese firm Nomura Securities was published recently and revealed some insight into what could be some of Nintendo’s plans for the initial and final reveals of its upcoming console, the NX. Nomura expects Nintendo to show at least a “concept” of the new device between March and May, with a full reveal in June. Further, Nomura echoed previous reports in saying he expects the NX to be on sale this holiday season, launching in October or November

I'm more inclined to think if its announced early this year it will be released in time for Christmas. If they announce a replacement for the 3DS and Wii U they know it will affect sales so would want to minimise that time as much as possible.
Having said that, the Nintendo predictions for sales this year are pretty high if that's the case.
