Mario is officially coming to the iPhone. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto made a surprise appearance at today’s Apple conference to announce Super Mario Run, an iOS runner with graphics from New Super Mario Bros.

It’ll be a paid app—not free-to-play—and Nintendo says it’s “coming soon” to the App Store. It’ll be out by this holiday, they say.

I think this will be really good, I can see people moaning it's an auto-runner but seriously, a traditional Mario with precise platforming on a touch screen would never have worked. I downloaded Sonic 2 on iPad and died so often due to on screen controls so they made right decision with that. It's good to see Mario come to mobile, it's bound to be a hit!
