Sad news the makers of Toki-Tori and the upcoming Rive are retiring once that game launches!

What a shame, I've really enjoyed their games and keep going back to the Rive demo.

Wow any reason for this madness? Rive really got my attention when I played the demo.

They posted a rather long explanation. After reading it I'm none the wiser.

Just read their blog they say times have changed and they no longer feel that they can be successful on the business end of the industry. I'm sure they could of kept on going. Still they're going out with a bang with Rive.

It's always tougher for the smaller game developers.

It's just proof that things like ' free to play ' are the worst thing ever created. Two Tribes : And that makes RedDwarf

Seeing guys like these going under for things like ' free to play ' just makes me really sad for the future of the industry, between that and micro-transactions, well I think they are a cancer to this industry that we all love. God help us all if this is the future...

If it is, I'm going to stop. I don't even like that there's Amiibo content in the upcoming Zelda...
Toki Tori 2+ is a really good game. There was so much potential in the character too...

Not to keen on the Amiibo's myself Harri but if it helps keep Nintendo afloat then it might be a good thing. Even the big N has started with free to play etc. Just have to see how far Nintendo go there MK8 DLC was great and worth it though.

MK8 DLC was really good. Also the Pikmin 3 DLC and Super Luigi U as DLC are great. If they wanted to add to the value of Amiibo's, they should give you a full VC title from one, and not just some pointless "demo" IMO.
It's a hard price point for the indie developer to be in the 15-20€ range on the eshop. Your game really has to be good, and you really have to give a reasonable amount of content for the price. I think they tried to do too much for Toki Tori 2+, and lost their profits in the process. Selling the product for a lot cheaper on Steam didn't do them any favours either. They devalued their own game in the eyes of people who where looking for it on the Wii U too. It's just like "Hold on, where does the extra fiver come from?" Make a game, price the game, sell your game according to the value and content. Not according to platform.
Free-to-play is a cancer for sure. I think it will have a huge negative impact to the industry in the long run. Same thing like all the streaming services in music. You think that you're getting a good deal, but you're mostly listening for free while the artist gets nothing. That's not very sustainable in the long run.
