Forum name and address.
Hi gang. I was considering paying the $10 it costs to change the Forums Address to Weverse. Problem is as some of you may know Weverse is also a popular (From what i am told) alternative entertainment site. I was thinking if i do pay to change the address should we change the forums name to something else?

yes maybe its time to let go of the 'weverse' name. then we need to do a little brainstorming for a short, easy rememberable name to exchange it with...

also the other "alternative entertainment site" uses 'weverse.net'.. so i dont think we can use that name even if we wanted to since freeforums is a '.net' domain... but the name 'wiiverse.net' is vacant and can be used instead, i did google search it an no site did show up using that name.. also after typing in this -> www.wiiverse.net/ i get server not found... i think that name might bring us more new users too. because of similarities people can miss spell miiverse with wiiverse, and the name will also show up when people are googling miiverse and nintendo wii/wiiu.. so my suggestion is that we should try out 'wiiverse.net'.... |

But what will happen if the NX launches with a different name and without Miiverse at all? Wouldn't that make the wii-part obsolete?

No but I was thinking that if Doug wants to change the address and is going to pay for the domains and such, do we then keep the present forum or do a complete reboot, with for example a generic Nintendo forum name, or a gaming forum in general..
If there's going to be a change it could be a small one, or "go big or go home" type of thing.. Or then no change at all.

I forgot to mention that if it was me and my money, I wouldn't use it on this platform at all. I would use it on something like www.phpbb.com/ and web hosting. Reason, this platform seems hard to customize and outdated in general.. Spoilers and subforums and add ons in general seem like a hassle.. I would definitely wait for the new version of these boards before throwing any money at them, and for a web domain. If it's a question of not attracting new users, I think that the active ones are the wrong ones to ask about what to change, if change at all. (Does that make sense?) |

I will have a look at that site you suggest Harri. I believe it's just a forum software, which would need additional server for hosting, and maybe a domain. But the software is open source and very customizable. You can make only parts of the forum "members only", or configure it so that the threads are visible but the attachments, pictures etc. are visible to members only. Should have lots of plugins freely available.. Also here's a helpful link for comparisons if you're going to change the platform: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_softwareThe ones with WYSIWYG editor feature could be nice. |

OK so i looked into it and i believe Harri is correct. If we went with www.phpbb.com/ we would need to provide our own domain. Don't think this can be done free as we would need to pay for the domain most likely yearly. |

Oh yes, but I believe that's the most powerful/used platform in the world. I'm not familiar with the pricing of ProBoards about domains etc.. My suggestion is that if you're going to pay anything at all, you should check the options before doing it, and maybe think of possible platform change at the same time. I think it should be fairly easy to move a forum these days, especially a smaller one like this. , also found this:https://muut.com/ I have no idea what it is or how it works, but it has an option to log in with MANY different accounts. I think that's an important feature these days (not for me though).. |

at this point i dont think its worth it. we have 18 regular users at most for months now out of 87 registered users. if you get 50 or more regular users daily, then maybe its time to start thinking about doing it. at this point i think its best to have a free forum.
